但下列几种情况不能互换：

1）whether后可紧接ornot,而if一般不能。

你能来还是不能来，请告诉我一声。;2）whether引导的宾语从句可移到主句前，if则不能。

Whetherthisistrueornot,Icannotsay.

这件事是否真实，我说不上。

3）不定式前用whether,不用if。如：

Ihaven’tdecidedwhethertogotothecinemaortostayathome.

我还没有决定是看电影还是留在家里。

4）介词后可用whether，不用if。如：

Ihaven’tsettledthequestionofwhetherI’llgobackhome.

我还没有决定是否回家。
