    Abstract

    Hipdysplasiaisacommonorthopedicdiseasethataffectsmillionsofpeopleworldwide,anditcanleadtoseverehippain,jointdisease,andevenhipreplacementsurgery.Whiletheexactcausesofhipdysplasiaremainunclear,studieshavesuggestedthatgeneticvariationsmayplayaroleinthedevelopmentofthiscondition.Specifically,copynumbervariations(CNVs)inthehumangenomehavebeenassociatedwitharangeofdiseases,includinghipdysplasia.Inthisstudy,weaimtoinvestigatetheassociationbetweenCNVvariationintheChinesepopulationandhipbonesizeasapredictorofhipdysplasia.Wewillusegenome-wideassociationanalysistoidentifyCNVsthatareassociatedwithhipbonesizeinasampleofChineseparticipants.Overall,thisstudywillprovidevaluableinsightsintothegeneticbasisofhipdysplasiaandmayleadtothedevelopmentoftargetedtreatmentsforthiscondition.

    Introduction

    Hipdysplasiaisacommonorthopedicconditionthataffectsmillionsofpeoplearoundtheworld.Thisconditionischaracterizedbyanabnormaldevelopmentofthehipjoint,whichcanresultinjointdeformation,jointdisease,hippain,andeventheneedforhipreplacementsurgeryinseverecases.Whiletheexactcausesofhipdysplasiaremainunknown,studieshavesuggestedthatgeneticvariationsmayplayaroleinthedevelopmentofthiscondition.Specifically,copynumbervariations(CNVs)inthehumangenomehavebeenassociatedwitharangeofdiseases,includinghipdysplasia.CNVsarestructuralvariationsinthegenomethatinvolvethedeletionorduplicationofgeneticmaterial,andtheyhavebeenshowntoimpactgeneexpressionandcontributetotheheritabilityofcertainconditions.
