Studiesofbothanimalsandhumanshaveshownthatsexhormonessomehow

triggerchemicalsthandomalesunderthesameconditions.Inseveralofthe
studies,whenstressed-outfemaleratshadtheirovaries(thefemalereproductive
organs)removed,theirchemicalresponsesbecameequaltothoseofthemales.

“opportunities”forstress.“It’snotnecessarilythatwomendon’tcopeas

observes,“it’sjustthatthey’redealingwithsomanymorethingsthatthey
becomewornoutfromitmorevisiblyandsooner.”
