INTRODUCTION

Thistestmethodwasdevelopedtosatisfythreeobjectives:(1)Developatestmethodthatwould

respondinthesamemannerasTestMethodD3948tostrongsurfactants,butnotgivelow

micro-separometer(MSEP)ratingstofuelscontainingweaksurfactants(additives)thatdonotdegrade

theperformanceofcommercialfilterseparatorelements;(2)Usefiltermediainthecoalescertestthat

wouldberepresentativeofthefiltrationmediaincommercialfilterseparatorelements;and(3)

ImprovetheprecisionofthetestmethodcomparedtoTestMethodD3948.

Thistestmethodwasdevelopedusingmaterialthatisrepresentativeofcoalescingmaterials

currentlyusedincommercialfilterseparatorelements.ThefiberglasscoalescingmaterialusedinTest

MethodD3948wassuitableforcoalescingfiltersinusewhenthattestmethodwasdeveloped,but
