DearChairandMembersoftheCommittee,
Thankyoufortheinvitationtoattendtoday’sCommitteemeetingonthetopicoftheprotectionofchildrenintheuseofAI.
IamClaireDilé,DirectorforGovernmentAffairsforEuropeatXandIamjoinedtodaybymycolleagueNiamhMcDade,ourHeadofGovernmentAffairsforIrelandandtheUK.
Asweaimtobuildaglobaltownsquareandprovideeveryonewiththeabilitytoconnect,debateandshareinformation,wearecommittedtoensuringasafeenvironmentforallourusers.X’spurposeistoservethepublicconversation,andwebelievethatfreedomofexpressionandplatformsafetycanandmustcoexist.

Xisnottheplatformofchoiceforchildrenandteens,nordowehavealineofbusinessdedicatedtochildren.
UsersonXmustbeaged13andifapersontellsustheyareunder13,theywillnotbeabletosignupforanaccount.
Accordingtoourdata,inthefirst3monthsof2024,13-17yearold’saccountedforlessthan1%ofX’sactiveaccountholdersinIreland.
AlthoughminorsrepresentasmallfractionofXsuserbase,wearefullycommittedtotheprotectionofthisgroup,whichisamorevulnerableaudienceonline,andhaveanumberoftoolsandpoliciestoprotectthemonourservice.
X’sageassuranceprocesscombinesself-declarationofagewithadditionaltechnicalmeasurestoensurethattheaccountholder’sageisgenuineandthatappropriatecontrolsareinplacetoprotectchildren.
