Abstract
ArtificialIntelligence(AI)anditsrelationwithsocietieshasbecomeanincreasinglyinterestingsubjectofstudyfortheso-cialsciences.Nevertheless,thereisstillanimportantlackofinterdisciplinaryandempiricalresearchapplyingsocialtheo-riestothefieldofAI.Wehereaimtoshedlightontheinterac-tionsbetweenhumansandautonomoussystemsandanalysethemoralconventions,whichunderlytheseinteractionsandcausemomentsofconflictandcooperation.ForthispurposeweemploytheEconomicsofConvention(EC),originallyde-velopedinthecontextofeconomicprocessesofproductionandmanagementinvolvinghumans,objectsandmachines.Wecreateadatasetfromthreerelevanttextsourcesandper-formaqualitativeexplorationofitscontent.Then,wetrainacombinationofMachineLearning(ML)classifiersonthisdataset,whichachieveanaverageclassificationaccuracyof83.7%.Aqualitativeandquantitativeevaluationofthepre-dictedconventionsreveals,interalia,thattheIndustrialandInspiredconventionstendtoco-existintheAIdomain.Thisisthefirsttime,MLclassifiersareusedtostudytheECindif-ferentAI-relatedtexttypes.Ouranalysisofalargerdatasetisespeciallybeneficialforthesocialsciences.
