Monetarypolicydecisions

TheGoverningCounciltodaydecidedtokeepthethreekeyECBinterestratesunchanged.The

incominginformationhasbroadlyconfirmedtheGoverningCouncil’spreviousassessmentofthe

medium-terminflationoutlook.Inflationhascontinuedtofall,ledbylowerfoodandgoodsprice

inflation.Mostmeasuresofunderlyinginflationareeasing,wagegrowthisgraduallymoderating,andfirmsareabsorbingpartoftheriseinlabourcostsintheirprofits.Financingconditionsremain

restrictiveandthepastinterestrateincreasescontinuetoweighondemand,whichishelpingtopushdowninflation.Butdomesticpricepressuresarestrongandarekeepingservicespriceinflationhigh.

TheGoverningCouncilisdeterminedtoensurethatinflationreturnstoits2%medium-termtargetinatimelymanner.ItconsidersthatthekeyECBinterestratesareatlevelsthataremakingasubstantialcontributiontotheongoingdisinflationprocess.TheGoverningCouncil’sfuturedecisionswillensurethatitspolicyrateswillstaysufficientlyrestrictiveforaslongasnecessary.IftheGoverningCouncil’supdatedassessmentoftheinflationoutlook,thedynamicsofunderlyinginflationandthestrengthofmonetarypolicytransmissionweretofurtherincreaseitsconfidencethatinflationisconvergingtothetargetinasustainedmanner,itwouldbeappropriatetoreducethecurrentlevelofmonetarypolicy

restriction.Inanyevent,theGoverningCouncilwillcontinuetofollowadata-dependentandmeeting-by-meetingapproachtodeterminingtheappropriatelevelanddurationofrest
