Abstract

Inthisreport,wepresentthesynthesisandphotophysicalpropertiesofα,β-diphenylacrylonitrile-basedluminescentmaterials.Thesyntheticstrategyinvolvesthereactionofasubstitutedbenzaldehydewithmalononitriletoformsubstituted2-cyanomethylidene-1,3-indanediones,followedbyreactionwithsubstitutedbenzeneaminestoformthetargetα,β-diphenylacrylonitrile-basedcompounds.ThephotophysicalpropertiesofthesecompoundswereinvestigatedusingUV-Visabsorptionandfluorescencespectroscopy.Preliminaryresultsindicatethatthesynthesizedcompoundsexhibitstrongabsorptioninthevisibleregionandemitfluorescenceintheblue-greenregion.

Introduction

Luminescentmaterialshavereceivedmuchattentionduetotheirpotentialapplicationsinnumerousfieldsincludingsensing,imaging,andoptoelectronics.Onegroupofluminescentmaterialsthathasgarneredparticularinterestisα,β-diphenylacrylonitrile-basedcompoundsduetotheiruniquephotophysicalpropertiesandpotentialapplicationsaselectroluminescentmaterials.

Inthisstudy,weaimtosynthesizeandcharacterizeaseriesofα,β-diphenylacrylonitrile-basedcompoundsandinvestigatetheirphotophysicalproperties.Thesyntheticstrategyinvolvesthereactionofasubstitutedbenzaldehydewithmalononitriletoformsubstituted2-cyanomethylidene-1,3-indanediones,followedbyreactionwithsubstitutedbenzeneaminestoformthetargetcompounds.ThephotophysicalpropertiesofthesynthesizedcompoundswillbeanalyzedusingUV-Visabsorptionandfluorescencespectroscopy.
