Abstract

TheWorldBankhaspublishedtheLogisticsPerformanceIndexsince2007.TheLogisticsPerformanceIndexusedtobebasedexclusivelyonperceptionratingsfromaglobalsurveyoflogisticsprofessionals.In2023,itwasaugmentedwithkeyperformanceindicatorsderivedfrommassiveglobalinternationalshipmenttrackingdata(dataoncon-tainershipping,aircargo,andpostallogistics).Thenew

setofindicatorsmeasurethespeedandconnectivityofinternationalsupplychains.Thispaperpresentsthedatasources,rationale,andproductionoftheindicators.Itdoesnotdiscussthefindingsfromthenewindicators,nordoesitintroduceadditionalempiricalwork.Thepapercom-plementsthe2023issueofConnectingtoCompete,thecompanionreporttotheLogisticsPerformanceIndex.

ThispaperisaproductoftheMacroeconomics,TradeandInvestmentGlobalPractice.ItispartofalargereffortbytheWorldBanktoprovideopenaccesstoitsresearchandmakeacontributiontodevelopmentpolicydiscussionsaroundtheworld.PolicyResearchWorkingPapersarealsopostedontheWebat/prwp.Theauthorsmaybecontactedatjarvis1@,cwiederer@,anddulybina@.
