Whoa,collegewasquitearide!Irememberbeingboth
excitedandnervouswhenIfirststeppedontocampus.
Everythingwassobigandnew.Thebuildingstoweredoverme,
andtherewerestudentseverywhere,lookingsogrown-upand
mature.Ifeltlikeatinyfishinavastocean!
OneofthebiggestchallengesIfacedrightawaywasbeing
onmyownforthefirsttime.Backhome,myparentstookcareof
everything–cooking,cleaning,laundry,younameit.Butin
college,Ihadtodoitallmyself.Andletmetellyou,thatwasnot
easyatall!
Mycookingskillswere,well,letsjustsaytheyleftalottobe
desired.ImprettysureIsurvivedmainlyoninstantnoodlesand
microwavemealsthatfirstsemester.Anddontevengetme
startedonlaundry!ImixedcolorswithwhitesmoretimesthanI
cancount,andImfairlycertainsomeofmyclothescameout
lookingmorelikemodernartthanwearablegarments.
Thentherewasthewholetimemanagementthing.Inhigh
school,mydayswereprettystructured–wakeup,gotoclass,do
homework,sleep,repeat.Butincollege,therewassomuchfree
time,anditwasuptometouseitwisely.Spoileralert:Ididnt
alwaysmakethebestchoices.Imayhavespentalittletoomuch
timegoofingoffwithfriendsorbinge-watchingshowswhenI
shouldhavebeenstudying.
Speakingofstudying,thatwasanothermajorhurdle.The
courseworkincollegewasnojoke!Iremembersittinginmyfirst
fewlectures,feelingcompletelylostastheprofessorsrattledoff
termsandconceptsIhadneverheardbefore.Itwaslikethey
werespeakingaforeignlanguage.Ispentcountlesshoursinthe
library,poringovertextbooksandtryingtomakesenseofitall.
Andletsnotforgetaboutthedreadedgroupprojects.Dont
getmewrong;Ilovecollaboratingwithothers.Butwheny
