Background:LowvitaminDstatushasbeenassociatedwithanumberofchronicdiseases.Fordyslipidemia,vitamin

Ddeficiencyhasbeenassociatedwithhigherlowdensitylipoprotein-cholesterol(LDL-C)inanumberofstudies,but

withinconsistentresultsinclinicaltrials.Thepurposeofthepresentstudyistoexploretherelativeimportanceof

3-epi-25-hydroxyvitaminD(25(OH)D)ascomparedwiththenon-epimericforminrelationtoserumlipid.

Method:Thisstudyuseddatafrom1068randomlyselectedvolunteersintheThai4thNationalHealthExamination

Survey(NHESIV).Serum25(OH)D,25(OH)D,3-epi-25(OH)Dand3-epi-25(OH)Dwereanalyzedbyliquid

chromatography–tandemmassspectrometry.

Results:Therewasnoassociationbetweenserumtotal25(OH)DandserumLDL-C.However,circulating

3-epi-25(OH)D3wasnegativelyrelatedtoserumLDL-C(r=−0.077,P0.05),whilenosuchassociationwas

foundfornon-epimeric25(OH)D3(r=0.030,P=0.33).Ontheotherhand,both3-epi-25(OH)D3(r=0.175,

P0.001)andnon-epimeric25(OH)D3(r=0.142,P0.001)werepositivelyrelatedtoserumtriglyceride(TRIG)levels
