Guidelinestoanalyzemapfile—

Introduction

Mapfileisatextfilewhichcontainstheoutputdataonthelocationofsectionswithinprograms.Itisgeneratedbythe

linkerduringbuilding.

Atypicalprogramcomprisesofseveralsegmentsforthecodeanddata,thelinkerwillautomaticallyallocatethe

memoryaddressforthesesegments.Normally,userdoesnotcareaboutthememoryallocation.Tochangethememory

locationofthesesegmentsoraddanewsegmenttothelinker,onecanrefertomapfileforthedetailedsegment

information.

Thisapplicationnoteprovidestheguidelinesforuserstoanalyzethemapfile,includingthelinkerinformationand

memorymap.
