dioxidefrometairlinersandalackofanelectricity-fueledreplacementfortheirheavyplanes.

ResearchersatDOEsNationalRenewableEnergyLaboratory（NREL）aretakingafreshlookatapromising

familyofnewandplentifulrawmaterials:foodwastesandurbanusedwatercontaininghumanmanure（粪肥）.

Everyoneisbeginningtoseethepotentialoftakingtheseorganicmaterialsthatwenormallyhavesenttolandfills

orwastewatertreatmentplants,saidDerekVardon,aseniorresearchengineeratNREL.Manureandfoodwastes

containfattyacidsthatcanbechangedtolinktheirchain-likestructurestogether.Theresultisaliquidfuel,Vardon

explained,onethathasseventimestheenergyofmethane—themaorcomponent（成分）ofnaturalgas.Thats

neededtogetaheavyairlinerofftheground.

treatmentprocesses.Hisideaistofeedthepollutantstoalgae（海藻）inthewastewaterplantsandthensellthealgae

asaproductthatcanbemadeintocommercialfertilizers.Yusideaistocollectanddevelopspecialalgae,sotheycan
