AsEnglishbecomesmoreandmoreimportantinourglobalized

world,ithasbecomeincreasinglynecessaryforyounglearnersto

learnEnglishfromanearlyage.InChina,Englishisintroducedas

acompulsorycourseinprimaryschools.However,theteachingof

Englishinprimaryschoolsstillfacesmanychallenges.Therefore,

itisimportanttoanalyzethecurrentsituationofEnglishteaching

inprimaryschoolsandproposeasuitableapproachthatcanbe

adoptedtoimprovetheteachingandlearningofEnglish.This

paperaimstopresentananalysisoftheteachingandlearningof

Englishinprimaryschools,withafocusontheA1level,and

providesrecommendationsforimprovingtheEnglishteaching.

Currentsituation

InChina,Englishisintroducedasacompulsorycourseinprimary

schools.TheMinistryofEducationhassetanumberof

requirementsfortheteachingofEnglish,whichincludedeveloping

students’basiclanguageskills,fosteringapositiveattitudetowards

languagelearning,cultivatingtheabilitytocommunicatein

English,anddevelopingtheabilitytolearnanduseEnglish

independently.Despitetheserequirements,manyprimaryschool

studentsinChinastillstrugglewithEnglish.

ThemainchallengesassociatedwithEnglishteachinginprimary

schoolsareasfollows:

•LackofqualifiedEnglishteachers:Inmanyprimaryschools,

EnglishteacherslackthequalificationsandabilitytoteachEnglish

effectively.

•Limitedclassroomhours:Duetothecrowdedcurriculum,

Englishisoftentaughtforonlyafewhourseachweek,which

makesitdifficultforstudentstodeveloptheirlanguageskills

effectively.

•Limitedteacher-studentinteraction:Thelargeclasssizeinmany

primaryschoolsresultsinlimitedinteractionbetweenteachersand

students.

•Lackofasuitablecurriculum:ThecurrentEnglishcurriculumin

primaryschoolsisoftendisconnectedfromstudents
