Preamble
a)Thisguidelineappliesonlytosunscreenproductsi.e.thoseproductswhoseprimaryfunctionisUVprotectionasindicatedbyrelativeorder,size,contentandextentofclaimmaterial.ItdoesnotapplytoproductswhichmakesecondaryUVprotectionclaims,suchasmoisturizingand
skinlighteningproducts.
b)WarningclaimsadditionaltothosealreadymandatedbyACDcanbechosenbyindustryfromthelistofexamplesaccordingtosuitabilityfortheproductinvolved.
c)SunscreenshouldprotectagainstbothUVBUVA.
Guideline
1Noclaimshouldbemadethatimplies:
a)100%protectionagainstUVAB
b)Thatreapplicationoftheproductisunnecessarye.g.wholedayprotection;
c)“Sunblock”(onlyapplicableinMalaysia)
d)Waterproofandsweatproofclaims(onlyapplicableinMalaysiaandThailand)
2Examplesofwarningsstatementforsunscreen:
a)Mandatory:
-Donotstaytoolonginthesun,evenwhileusingasunscreenproduct(asdefinedinAnnexVII,ACD)
b)Stronglyrecommendedwarning:
-Re-applyfrequentlytomaintainprotection,especiallyaftersweating,swimmingortoweling;
-Theuseofsunscreensisonewaytoreducethedangersfromsunexposure;
-Instructionforusetoensurethatsufficientquantityisapplied,e.g.pictogram,illustration,etc;
-Over-exposuretothesunisaserioushealththreat;
3Claimsshouldbeeasilyunderstoodandunambiguous;
4ClaimsofUVprotectionshouldnotbemadeifSPF6;
5ThefollowingSPFclassificationsarerecommended
