Today，theForbiddenCityishometothePalaceMuseum，whichopenedin1925.Sincethen，ordinarypeoplehavebeenabletoentertheForbiddenCityandadmiretherichcollectionofthePalaceMuseum，whichcomprisesaround1.8millionobjectsthatcoverthousandsofyearsofChinesehistory.ThePalaceMuseumisoneofonlyafewmuseumsintheworldwhichcanberegardednotonlyasamuseumofartandhistory，butalsoasoneofarchitecture，aswellastraditionandculture.Inshort，itisasymbolofthegreatandglorioushistoryofChinesecivilisation，preservingtheculturalmemoryofthecountry.

TheForbiddenCitywaslistedasaUNESCOWorldHeritageSitein1987.Today，morethan14millionvisitorseachyearwalkthroughitshugegates，makingitthemostvisitedworldheritagedestinationintheworld.
