Drawingonthework/familybordertheory,thepresentstudyexploredtheroleof

work-relatedICTuseathomeinshapingthecharacteristicsofwork/familyborders(i.e.

flexibilityandpermeability),andconsequentlyinfluencingindividuals’perceived

work-familyconflict,technostress,andleveloftelecommuting.Theresultsshowedthatthe

morepeopleuseICTstoworkathome,thegreatertheyperceivetheirwork/familyborders

flexibleandpermeable.Thishighlightedtheparadoxicalroleofcommunication

technologies—itcanbeliberatingandconstraining,creatingnewpossibilitiesforautonomy

andinvasion.Theresultsalsosuggestedthatlowflexibilityandhighpermeabilityof

work/familyborders,ratherthanICTuseathome,hadmuchstrongerinfluenceson

increasingwork-familyconflictandtechnostress(especiallytechno-invasion).Thitended

thepreviousliteraturebydissectingthemechanismthroughwhichICTertimpacton

work-familyinterface.Thus,itistheindividuals’controloverwhatpassesthroughthe

work-homeboundarythatdeterminestheeffectsofICTuseontheirworkandfamilylives.
