1Thethreelargeststructuresintheworldwereproductsofanoutburstofstructuralcreativityinthelasthalfofthe19thcentury.TheCrystalPalace,madeofiron,erectedforthe1851GreatExhibitioninLondon,coversthelargestarea;theBrooklynBridge,completedinsteelin1883,hasthelongestspan;andtheEiffelTower,madeofsteelandstartedin1887,reachesthegreatestheight.Thefirsttwohadutilitarianpurposes.;
