PostonbecameareporterfortheAmsterdamNewsinHarlemin1928.By1935hebecameeditorofthepaper.ShortlyafterhispromotionPostonledanattempttounionizehisfellowreportersandinstigatedastrike.Hewasfiredbecauseofhisactivities.Followinghisdismissal,heheldaseriesofoddjobsuntilhewastemporarilyhiredbytheNewYorkPostin1936,makinghimonlythethirdAfricanAmericantobehiredasareporterforamajorNewYorkCitydailypaper.;TedPostonwouldremainwiththeNewYorkPostforthenextthirtyfiveyears.Duringthattimehealsoengagedin“racework,”theefforttoimprovethelivesofAfricanAmericans.In1940,Postonbecamepartofthefamed“blackcabinet,”aninformalgroupofAfricanAmericanpolicyadvisorstoPresidentFranklinRoosevelt.
