PRECAUTIONS

WhenworkingwithFIPGmaterial,youmustbeobservethefollowing.

•Usingarazorbladeandgasketscraper,removealltheoldpacking(FlPG)materialfromthegasket

surfaces.

•Thoroughlycleanallcomponentstoremovealltheloosematerial.

•Cleanbothsealingsurfaceswithanon–residuesolvent.

•Applythesealpackinginapprox.1mm(0.04in.)beadalongthesealingsurface.

•Partsmustbeassemblywithin10minutesofapplication.Otherwise,thepacking(FIPG)material

mustberemovedandreapplied.

DESCRIPTION

•TheW55andW56manualtransmissionsarethree–shifttype,havinganinputshaft,output

shaftandcountergear.Poweristransmittedfromtheinputshafttothecountergear,and

thentotheoutputshaftwhichisco–axiallyfittedtotheinputshaft.Theinputshaftandthe

outputshaftareengageddirectlytoeachotherinthe4thgearposition.

•The1stthrough5thgearsareconstantmeshgearswhichuseaninertialockkeytype

synchromeshmechanism.Thereversegearisaslidingmeshgearwhichisengagedby

slidingtheidlergear.

•W55andW56aremanualtransmissionsuseasingle–conesynchromeshmechanismfoi

thereversegear.
