ThislessonmentionsMountVesuviusandthecityofPompeii.Studentsmayknowlittleboutthem,sofirstI’llletthemenjoyashortvideoaboutthevolcaniceruption,givingthemtwoquestionstoanswer,thenshowstudentsamap,havingthemlocateMountVesuviusandPompeii.AsstudentsofGrade2inseniorhighschool,theyhavealreadydevelopedtheirreadingabilitiestosomeextent.Buttheyarelackinginsomereadingskills.Moststudentsliketoreadanarticlewordbyword.Theyspendmuchtimebutcan’tgetthekeyinformationandsomeofthemhavetroubleinunderstandingthetext,soI’lldesignsometext-relatedtasksforthemtodo.Beforetheyreadthetext,I’llintroducethemsomefastandintensivereadingskillstohelpthempracticethesereadingskillswhiletheyarereading,thusdevelopingtheirreadingabilities.
