Abstract—AnadditionalstudyofthecephalicshieldandtrunkscalesoftheholotypeofUngulaspisarctoa

AfanassievaetKaratajuteTalimaahasshownthattheexoskeletonsurfaceiscomposedofdentinofatleast

twogenerations.Basedonnewdata,theexoskeletonofUngulaspisisreconstructed.Amodelforontogenetic

developmentoftheexoskeletonofUngulaspisarctoaisproposed.Thesuperpositiongrowthofosteostracan

exoskeletonisdescribedindetailforthefirsttimeusingmacroratherthanmicroremains.UsingOsteostraci

asanexample,theexistenceoftwo(bipolarandunipolar)typesofverticalgrowthoftheexoskeletoninsome

groupsoflowervertebratesisshown.ThetaxonomicpositionofUngulaspisarctoainthesystemofOsteostraci

isdiscussed.
