ThecontentandextentofthetheoreticaltasksoftheIChOswerethesubjectsof
themanydiscussionsoftheInternationalJuryinthepast.Itisnotastonishingsincethey
influencetheresultsofcompetingpupilsinadecidingmanner.Moreover,thecontentof
thecompetitiontaskshasadirectconnectionwiththeteachingprogramsofchemistryat
thesecondaryschoolsintheparticularcountries.Naturally,thementors/teacherscompare
thepossibilitiesoftheteachingprogramsintheircountrieswiththerequirementsofthe
IChObutthiscanbefindpositiveandmayserveasaninspirationfactor.
Manyusefuldiscussionstookplaceondifferentlevels(theInternationalJury,the
WorkingGroups,discussionswiththeauthors,etc.)andresultedinmanysheetsofpaper
withprintedrecommendationsandconclusions.Itisnotpossibletowriteabouttheminall
detailsbutallofthemarepreservedinothermaterialssuchasreportsfromthemeetings
ofworkinggroups,internationaljuryandsteeringcommittee,seminarsorfinalreportsfrom
theparticularsInternationalChemistryOlympiads.
Correspondinglythevolumeofthetheoreticalcompetitiontaskshasenlarged.The
firstorganizerdidnotneedalotofpaper,asthecompletecompetitiontookonlytwo
pages.The10thIChOhad10pagesforthetheoreticalpart,the20thIChO13pagesand
the29thIChOshowedonly12pages,butwithsmallerfonts,moretypedlinesperpage
andadditionalanswersheets.Itistakingalotoftimeonlytoreadawholesetof
theoreticaltasks!Thereforeitwasdecidedtoexpressthelimitsofthetextoftheoretical
partviathenumberoflettersusedforthetaskaltogetherwithanswersheets(25000).
