Thestudyrevealsthatpatientsinlow-incomezipcodeswereupto10times

morelikelytolosealegorfootthandiaicpatientsinmoreaffluentzipcodes.

InpoorareaslikeCompton,asmanyas10.7outof1,000diaicadultsages

45andolderwounduplosingalowerlimbduetodiaescomplications.In

wealthierareas,includingMalibuandBeverlyHills,nomorethan1.5diaics

per1,000lostalimbtothedisease.

Fewerhealthcareoptionsforpoorerpatientsandtheirprovidersmayhave

contributedtothedisparity,theresearcherswrite.

Thediaespatientsmostatriskforamputationsweremale,olderthan65,

blackandnon-Englishspeaking.
