BrianP.FlanneryisavisitingfellowatResourcesfortheFuture(RFF).Dr.FlanneryjoinedRFFin2012wherehecontinuesinvolvementinclimateandenergyissuesthatbeganwhenhejoinedExxon’sCorporateResearchin1980.HeretiredfromExxonMobilCorporationin2011asScience,Strategy,andProgramsManager.AtExxon,heconductedandsupportedclimateresearch,andorganizedinternationalmeetingsonclimate-relatedscience,technology,economics,andpolicy.AsanobserverforindustryandcontinuingatRFF,hefollowedandreportedonIPCCassessmentsandnegotiationsundertheUNFrameworkConvention.AtExxon,FlanneryplayedaleadershiproleincreatingtheJointProgramontheScienceandPolicyofGlobalChange(MIT)andtheGlobalClimateandEnergyProject(Stanford).

Flanneryhasservedonnumerouseditorialandadvisoryboards,amongthemStanfordUniversitySchoolofEngineeringandAnnualReviewsofEnergyandEnvironmentandparticipatedinassessmentsbytheUSDOE(climatemodelingandscenarios),EPA(climateimpacts),andIPCCWorkingGroupIII.HeservedwithbusinessassociationsincludingtheInternationalChamberofCommerce(Vice-Chair,EnvironmentandEnergyCommission),USCouncilforInternationalBusiness(Chair,InternationalEnergyWorkingGroup),andMajorEconomiesBusinessForum(Chair,TaskForceonBusinessEngagement).

BeforeExxon,FlannerypursuedacareerinastrophysicswithdegreesfromPrinceton(1970)andUCSantaCruz(PhD1974)andasapost-doctoralassociateattheInstituteforAdvancedStudyandassistantandassociateprofessoratHarvard.FlanneryiscoauthorofthereferencebookNumericalRecipes:TheArtofScientificComputing.
