    WolfgangusTheophilusMozart.Ofthesenames,thefirsttworefertoJohnChrysostom,oneofthe

    ChurchFathers,andtheywerenamesnotemployedineverydaylife.Thefourthname,meaning

    belovedofGodinGreek,wasvariouslytranslatedinMozartslifetimeasAmadeus(Latin),

    Gottlieb(German),andAmadé(French).MozartsfatherLeopoldannouncedthebirthofhissonin

    alettertothepublisherJohannJakobLotterwiththewords...theboyiscalledJoannes

    Chrysostomus,Wolfgang,Gottlieb.Mozarthimselfpreferredtousethethirdname(Wolfgang),

    andmayalsohavetakenafancytoAmadeusovertheyears(seeMozartsname).
