TyphoonNinastruckHenanprovinceofChinainAugust1975.Thetyphooncausedaseriousdam(水坝)failure,andmorethan150,000peopleweredeadorinjured.Accordingtoreports,atleast26,000peoplediedinthefloods.About145,000peoplediedfromdiseasescausedbywaterpollutionandfamine(饥荒).Thenumberofpeopleinfluencedbythedisasterwasmorethan10,000,000.

KashmirEarthquake

OnOctober8,2005,adisastrousearthquakestrucktheJashmirregion.Theearthquakemeasured7.6,followedbymanyaftershocks,landslides,andfallingrocks.Theseriousnessofthedamageandthehighnumberofdeathswereworsenedbypoorconstruction(建筑).InKashmir,atleast79,000peoplewerekilled,andmorethan32,000buildingsbrokedown.

HaitianEarthquake

Atthebeginningof2010,anearthquakehitHaiti.Theearthquakemeasured7.0andwasfollowedbyaftershocksthatmeasured5.9and5.5.Anotheraftershockthatmeasured5.9struckonJanuary20.Therehavebeendifferentviewsaboutthetotalnumberofdeathscausedbythisearthquake,butestimatessuggestthatabout200,000—300,000peopledied.Hundredsofthousandsmorewereforcedtoleavetheirhomes.
