ThisreportassessesthecurrentstateoftheU.S.droneindustry,focusingonthetypes

ofplatformsmarketedintheUnitedStatesandthefinancialhealthofU.S.-

headquarteredUAVcompanies.UsingdatafromtheAssociationforUncrewedVehicle

SystemsInternational’s(AUVSI)UncrewedSystemsRoboticsDatabase(USRD)and

PitchBook,theanalysisfindsthatmostU.S.dronecompaniesfocusonsmallUAVs

(Groups1-3),andonlyahandfuloflargerdefensefirmsdevelopmorecomplex

militarysystems(Groups4-5).

MostU.S.dronecompaniesareprivatelyheld,venture-backedcompanies,manyof

whichwerefoundedafter2010.Investmentactivityisconcentratedincompaniesthat

producesmaller,commercialdrones,whileventureinterestislimitedindevelopersof

largermilitarysystems.However,significantgapsremaininpubliclyavailabledata,

particularlyregardingmanufacturingcapacityandsupplychainresilience,bothof

whicharecriticalfactorsfordeterminingthebroaderhealthoftheU.S.UAV

ecosystem.
