Migranthealthisahumanrightandanimportantcontributortoglobalpublichealth.Migrants,asylumseekersandotherat-risknoncitizensmayexperienceimmigrationdetentionatcertainstagesoftheirmigrationjourney,whichnegativelyimpactstheirhealth,duetothedetrimentalsocialandenvironmentalconditionsinimmigrationdetentionfacilities.Internationallegalframeworksprescribethatimmigrationdetentionmeasuresmustrespecttheprinciplesoflegality,necessityandproportionality;therefore,immigrationdetentionshouldonlybeusedasalastresort,whilethedetentionofchildrenisneverintheirbestinterestsandshouldneverbeusedandbeprohibitedinlaw.However,immigrationdetentionisbecomingincreasinglyemployedaroundtheworld,highlightingtheneedforenhancedtranslationofevidenceintopolicy,usingexistingevidenceonspecifichealthoutcomesofthosedetained,theconditionsthatinfluencethesehealthoutcomesandthepossiblesolutionstomitigateandimprovetheseoutcomes.
