Abstract

Programmingawelltrajectorywitharotarysteerablesystem(RSS)anddrillingtoageometricalor

geologicaltargetwithminimalsurfaceintervention,placingthedirectionaldrillerintoasupervisoryrole,

isthevisiontoachieveinthedownholetrajectoryautomationdomain.Automationcanbedefinedinfive

levels.Level0ismanualdrillingofwelltrajectorieswithmechanicaltoolssuchaspendulumassemblies

and/orpositivedisplacementmotors.Level1ofautomationwasintroducedwithdeployingRSSsinthe
