Thisyear,EntergyemployeevolunteerscelebratedMartinLutherKing,Jr.DaywithaseriesofvolunteereventsacrosstheNewOrleansMetroAreaoverathree-dayweekend.Mackandhersixteen-year-olddaughterAalainajoinedtheUnitedWayofSoutheastLouisianaandothercommunitymemberstohelpdevelopanurbangardenandrefreshalocalplaygroundintheDesireArea.

Mackquicklyrealizedthatheroldneckofthewoods,whichwasoncefulloflife,didnotlookthesameasitdidwhensherodebikeswithherfriendstothelocalcandystore.Itwasimportantforhertonotonlyshowhercollege-bounddaughterwhereshegrewup,butshealsowantedherdaughtertoexperiencewhatitfeltliketogiveback,especiallytoherowncommunity.“Volunteeringwithmydaughterallowsustobond(联系),butIalsowanthertotaketheseopportunitiestoinvest(投资)hertimewhenshecan,meetnewpeople,learnnewskillsandgainvolunteerhoursforhercollegeapplications,”saidMack.

Themotheranddaughterworkedhand-in-handwithothervolunteerstobuildapicnictableforlocalstohavelunchorrestandastageforlocalartiststoperformduringcommunityfestivities.

“TheweekendwastheperfectopportunitytovolunteerandfollowDr.King—andotherswhohavemadesacrificestobringequalityanddiversitytoourcommunities.IwashappytogetouttorepresentEntergyforMLKDayandwillcontinuetodomypartinservingourcommunity,”saidMack.
