Abstract

TrimericCorporation(Trimeric)hasperformedseveralstudiesfordifferentrefineriesto

evaluatethedesignandperformanceofmoltensulfurstoragetankandloadingsystems.Someof

theseunitsincludedvaporejectionandventsystemssothatvaporsfromthesulfurtankand

railcarortruckloadingcouldberecycledbacktotheupstreamClauscombustor,tothe

incinerator,toacausticscrubber,ortoanotherdestination.Themoltensulfurwasdegassedat

some,butnotatalloftherefineries.This“cameo”paper(shortpaper)providesageneralized

reviewofsomeofthefindingsforimprovements.Keytopicsinclude:H2SandSO2contentsof

thevaporstreams,determinationofthesweepairflowrate,estimationoftheventgas

compositiontotheejectorandtheassociatedpipingdesign,heatingoptionsforinternalpipingin

thesulfurtank,externalsulfurpipinglayoutandheatin
