Abstract

ThismultivariatestudyinvestigatedwhetherParentalSupport，TeacherSupport，andAcademicMotivationmediatethe

relationshipbetweenParentalStatus[i．echildrenfromsingleorbothparentshomes)andAcademicPerformance．The

researchdesignusedforthestudywasacrosssectionalsurveyusingthequantitativeapproach．Datasetfrom250primary

schoolpupilsfromtheEffutuMunicipalitywereanalysedusingpartialcorrelationandmultipleregressionanalytical

techniques．Amongthestudyfindings，thatwerewhentheeffectsofParentalStatuswerecontrolledfor，ParentalSupport，

TeacherSupport，andAcademicMotivationstillrelatedsignificantlytoAcademicPerformance．Amongtheconclusionsofthe

findingsarethat，whetherthechildwasfromasingleorbothparenthomewasnotimportantwithregardtohisorher

academicperformancebutratheritwasthequalityofsupportthatthechildgetsrfomwhoeverisdoingtheparenting，

teachersupportandthechild’sownacademicmotivationthatwereimportanttodeterminethechild’sAcademic

Performance．ThestudyalsofoundthatParentalSupportwasthebestpredictorofthepupils’AcademicPerformanceoutof

thethreefactorsincludingTeacherSupportandAcademicMotivation．
