remember–myinnermonologue.Now,beforeyoustartenvisioninga

cartoonishfigurewhisperinginmyear,letmeassureyou,it’snot

thatdramatic.It’smorelikeanever-endingstreamofconsciousness,a

voicethattalkstomewhenI’malone,andI’vedecidedtosharea

humorousaccountofoneofourmorememorableescapades.

ThestorybeginsonaratheruneventfulMondaymorning.Iwassippingmy

coffee,idlyscrollingthroughsocialmedia,whensuddenly,myinner

monologuedecidedtohaveamoment.It’savoicethatneverceasesto

amazemewithitswitandsometimes,itsabsurdity.So,withoutfurther

ado,letmetakeyouthroughthedaymyinnermonologuedecidedtogo

rogue.

AsIsatthere,savoringthewarmthofmycoffee,myinnermonologue

pipedup,“Hey,youknowwhat?Todayisthedayyoufinallyconquer

yourfearofpublicspeaking.Justimaginetheapplause,theadmiration,

thesenseofaccomplishment!YoucouldbethenextTEDTalksensation!”

Irolledmyeyes.“Oh,please.I’mnotreadyforthatleveloffame,

thankyouverymuch.”

“No,no,no,”itreplied,undeterred.“Thinkaboutit!Youhavethis

amazingstorytotell,andyou’renotsharingitwiththeworld.Whata

waste!”

Isighed,butthevoicepersisted.“Anddon’tworryaboutthenerves.

I’llberighttherewithyou,cheeringyouon.Justthinkofmeasyour

personalhypeman!”

Well,whatdoyouknow?Therestofthemorningwasspentplanningmy

TEDTalk.Ibrainstormedtopics,cameupwithacatchytitle,andeven

startedjottingdownsomenotes.Bylunchtime,Iwasfullyconvinced

thatIwasgoingtobethenextbigthing.

AsIwalkedintotheoffice,mycolleaguesgreetedmewithamixof

confusionandamusement.
