originaladoptionor,inthecaseofrevision,theyearoflastrevision.Anumberinparenthesesindicatestheyearoflastreapproval.A

superscriptepsilon(e)indicatesaneditorialchangesincethelastrevisionorreapproval.

1.Scope

1.1Thispracticedescribesproceduresforthemeasurement,

processing,andinterpretationoftheacousticemission(AE)

responseassociatedwithselectedstagesoftheresistance

spot-weldingprocess.

1.2Thispracticealsoprovidesguidelinesforfeedback

controlbyutilizingthemeasuredAEresponsesignalsduring

thespot-weldingprocess.

1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthe

safetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itisthe

responsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappro-

priatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplica-

bilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.

4.Signi?canceandUse

4.1TheAEproducedduringtheproductionofaspot-weld

canberelatedtoweldqualityparameterssuchasthestrength

andsizeofthenugget,theamountofexpulsion,andthe

amountofcracking.Therefore,in-processAEmonitoringcan

beusedbothasanexaminationmethod,andasameansfor

providingfeedbackcontrol.

5.BasisofApplication

5.1PersonnelQuali?cation—

5.1.1Ifspeci?edinthecontractualagreement,personnel

performingexaminationstothisstandardshallbequali?edin

accordancewithanationallyrecognizedNDTpersonnelquali-

?cationpracticeorstandardsuchasANSI/ASNTCP-189,

SNT-TC-1A,MIL-STD-410,NAS-410orasimilardocument

andcerti?edbytheemployerorcertifyingagency,asappli-

cable.Thepracticeorstandardusedanditsapplicable
