Abstract

Weintroduceradialencodingofnanowires(NWs),anewmethodofdifferentiating

andcontrollingNWsbyasmallsetofmeso-scalewires.SuchNWscanbeusedin

crossbarsasmemoriesorprogrammedlogicarrays.Methodsofcontrolling(decoding)

radiallyaddressedNWsandefficientshelletchingalgorithmsforthispurposearegiven.

Thenewencodinganddecodingmethodsareshowntobecomparableineffectivepitch

withaxiallyencodedNWsbutnottosufferfrommisalignmentthatischarateristicof

suchNWs.Wealsointroduceandanalyzehybridaxial/radialNWencodings.

1Introduction

Scientistshavedevelopedmethodsforgrowingnanowires(NWs)andcarbonnanotubes

(NTs)whosediametersareontheorderofafewnanometers[1,2,3,4,5](afewmolecular

diameters).TheyhavealsoexhibitedmethodstoassembleNWsintonanoarrays,crossbars

consistingoftwoorthogonalsetsofparallelwiresoneithersideofamolecularlayer[6,7,

4,8,9,10,11].Themoleculesinthislayerarechosensothatundertheapplicationof

largepositiveandnegativeelectricfiel
