2：ContinuousRotatingAnnularChromatographCRACByusingacylindricalannulus,thechromatographicreactorcanbeoperatedcontinuously.Theannulusspaceisformedbyemployingtwoconcentriccylinders.Theannulus,packedwithadsorbentand/orcatalyst,isrotatedcontinuously.Thecomponentsarefedintotheapparatusthroughafixedportatthetopoftheannulus.Additionally,eluentisuniformlyintroducedoverthewholecrosssectionatthetopoftheapparatus.Acomponentinthemobilephasemovesinanaxialdirection(becauseofgravityandpressuredifference)andinatangentialdirection(becauseoftherotationoftheapparatus).Anadsorbedmoleculeonlymovestangentially.Becauseofthedifferentadsorptionofthecomponents,theirresidencetimeinthestationaryphasediffers.Therefore,thecomponentscanbecollectedatfixedoutletportsatthebottomoftheannulus(Fig.?2).Figure2SchematicrepresentationoftherotatingcylindricalannulusApplications:forthehydrolysisofmethylformateOtherreactionsthathavebeenperformedwiththerotatingcylindricalannulusaretheenzymecatalyzedinversionofsucroseandthesaccharificationofstarchtomaltose.
