* Thank you Laurie. We have all heard of the potential for the M2M market: there are more intelligent devices that could be connected to the internet than there are people on the planet. That being said, we believe there are 3 fundamental shifts that need to occur to make this potential a reality. First, an Economic shift: the cost to bring connected devices to market and the cost of communications must continue to decline Second, a Technology shift: technologies must be brought to market that make cellular communications as easy as connecting a device to an Ethernet cable And finally, an Operational shift: innovation must bring about a seamless global cellular network and the ability to embed cellular communications processes directly into an OEMs smart services processes. For the sake of this discussion, I will focus on two critical components of the Operational shift: maximizing the ROI of network provisioning and Billing. * I will use key device lifecycle stages to illustrate ways to maximize network provisioning and billing ROI. These stages include manufacturing, distribution, service activation (both for single country and multinational deployments) and in service management, including retirement and repurposing. As I step through each of these processes, I will highlight key considerations in determining what’s important from a provisioning and billing perspective and then discuss key capabilities you should look for from a service provider to maximize your ROI. Finally, I will provide a couple of case studies of companies who have found ways to maximize their ROI for their M2M deployments. * Let’s first look at manufacturing through service activation for a single country deployment Not surprisingly, you need to think through the all key steps along the way. Do I need to conduct wireless end to end testing of my devices at the factory to reduce RMA situations? What does my distribution channel look like? Long lead times, multi-tiered partners?
