Introduction Context plays an indispensable role in the process of language interpretation, which determines the speaker’s use of language and also the hearer’s interpretation of what is said to him or her. It makes linguistic communication possible. From the very ancient time to modern time, different linguistic schools and linguists have different understandings of context. Generally speaking, context refers to the environment where language applied.?“It is considered as constituted by the knowledge shared by the speaker and the hearer,” 1 There are various knowledge, such as,?“knowledge of the language they use, knowledge of what has been said before, knowledge about the specific situation in which linguistic communication is taking place,” 2 and knowledge about the speaker and the hearer. Anthropologist B?Malinowski first put forward context in 1923. He has observed and studied the language service condition of the autochthon in the primitive tribe on the island of the South Pacific Ocean, pointing out that:?“context of situation,” and,?“context of culture.”3 In 1950, J.R.Firth who is the founder of a linguistic school in London followed and gave a further development of the research, putting forward context, according to which context is divided into situational context and cultural context, he also put out that the real meaning of language can only be formed by linguistic context and co-text. Besides, Firth’s student Halliday put forward the concept of register, stating that contextual factors include: field of discourse?(range in the speech activity), mode of discourse?(media of the speech activity), tone of discourse?(communication person’s posit
