So how to play the role of the teacher in English teaching is very important.The traditional role of the teacher is believed to impart knowledge, teach skills and answer questions for the students. In other words, a teacher’s job is to transmit knowledge of the target language. The teacher focuses on grammar and spends most of the time in practicing grammatical exercises, on the explanations of words, phrases and the meaning of the text. The teacher also prepares lots of supplementary papers for the students, thinking it’s the only way to help the students get good marks in the exam instead of developing their communicative abilities. What the students need to do is sitting quietly, listening to the teacher, making lots of note about the words’ usages in or out of the text, repeating what the teacher has said, following instructions and completing the teacher’s assignments on their own. The students have not much time to share the ideas or do oral exercises with their classmates during the class. This classroom is orderly because the teacher’s role is a disciplinarian.
