We can learn the colorful world by our eyes, so the sense of color catches the full attentions of scientists, artists and linguists, etc. At the end of 20 century, 1960’s, Brent Berlin and Paul Kay worked together to publish the most influential work-Basic Color Terms: Their Universality and Evolution. They thought that there were eleven basic color categories in the vocabulary. They were known as Basic Color Terms: white, black, red, green, yellow, blue, brown, green and purple, pink, orange. There were many other people who did the research to the different meanings of the same color in different countries, such as China, Japan and the western countries. We should not merely pay attention to the colors’ basic meanings. We should pay attention to the deep and broad symbolic meaning, because their symbolic meaning often has different characteristics in different national languages, some characteristics even form taboo of color after guiding, stretching, transferring meaning.?Taboo about color is different among different languages because each nation has respective religious, historical, social and geographical culture. Language is the carrier of culturelanguage reflects various value orientations, ideology and so on. Because of the different cultural backgrounds, we often encounter the communicative problems, which prevent effective intercultural communication.
