The most commonly used negative words are no, not, never, and neither. e.g. They aren’t listening to pop music now. Many people can’t speak English now. Neither of the two girls study well. No honest man would lie. I will never make that mistake again. the kinds of negative statements (1) auxiliary verb + not They might not (mightn’t) have been written last week. I do not (don’t) think so. In this simplest kind negative statements, not or n’t comes after the auxiliary verb. Tip A negative statement may sometimes have a positive meaning. Eg. He didn’t leave anything to his son but a big library of books. 2. Students are not discouraged to discuss things with their classmates.
