1)To develop students’ reading ability, learn to use some reading strategies such as guessing, key sentences, skimming and so on;
2)To learn to enjoy the fun of travel and appreciate the beautiful sceneries in the world.
3)To Learn about some useful words and expressions in the text.
4)To learn geographical information about the Mekong River

1)Play the famous song “Moon River” to attract the Ss.
2) Ask the Ss some questions:
—Which is the longest river in southeast Asia?
—In Chinese, it’s called “Langcang River”, while out of China, it’s called the Mekong River.
—What countries doses the Mekong River flow through?
Step II Reading
1.Look at the title of the passage on page18 Journey Down The Mekong and guess what it is about
2. Now skim the passage and see if you are right.
3. skim the text to decide which is the main idea of the passage
