A study done by Selwyn and Ellis in 1972, found out that after five hours of decontamination, areas of the skin regained original bacteria counts. As we have already stated, antiseptics can be inactivated by the local environment. A lot of antimicrobial agents are inactivated by blood and body fluids (organic matter).
