1Objective 目的Following an incident where the steering system of a taxi mal-functioned, MIRA were asked to assess the mal-functioning steering system and investigate the cause. 有一辆出租车因转向系统故障导致一次事故后,MIRA受邀对故障转向系统进行评估并调查其原因。Specimen Description / Part No(s) 样本说明/件号Two vehicles were investigated, SL61 BWA and LS12 XTR. SL61 BWA had been involved in an incident reported to VOSA. Subsequently, LS12 XTR had been returned to LTI by their London Dealer. Note, SL61 BWA was not available for assessment, however, it's steering box (no other components) had been fitted to another vehicle to allow assessment. In both instances a circlip had failed to retain the Control Ring. The cause of the circlip failure is not certain. With engine on, the steering functioned normally when turning left. When turning right (from any position in the steering travel), the wheel would turn (high effort) for approx 3/4 0f one revolution, then would turn no further without assistance from a second person.
