Objective To investigate the changes of c tokeratin 19 during oral carcinogenesis. Methods 53 specimens including normal oral mucosa, oral epithelial h perplasia, oral epithelial d splasia and oral squamous cell carcinoma were investigated b immunohistochemistr , SDSPAGE and Western blotting. Results CK19 was detectable in suprabasal cell la ers in epithelial d splasia and in oral cancer, especiall in poordifferentiated cancerous cells. With the lesions getting worse, the positive rate, the intensit and the constituent ratio of CK19 raised significantl . Conclusions The results suggest that the CK19 expression in suprabasal cell la ers of oral mucosa can be used as a marker of diagnosis of oral precancerous lesions and CK19 expression is the initial events during oral carcinogenesis.
