Abstract With the globalization of financial markets and the changing business environment, commercial banks in Macau do need to find a new direction in the aims to increase its profit margin and competition, accompanied by the economic development of Macau simultaneously. In the first part of the thesis, we would bring out the needs for Macau banks to increase its profit ability through the historical development in the banking industry, the current operating environment as well as the present economy of Macau. Meanwhile, in the aims to compromise the changing brought from internal and external environments, it is necessary for the industry to follow the transformation. In Part II, we would have a look to the recent financial and economical problems appearing in the Asian Pacific area in order to figure out the reasons behind. It is likely for us to avoid this tragedy happen again by going through this experience. In addition, it would act as a base for Macau banking industry to further develop. In Part III, in order to screen out opportunities and challenges, we would like to discuss about the current issues facing by the industry from different views. From there, we can find a new direction for the future development of the banking industry. Furthermore, we would analyze which kind of businesses is suitable to the current environment and can increase the profit margin in the banking industry at the same time. Finally, we would look at the deficiency in the new products of the industry and try to figure out a suitable strategy, which can improve the operation also. Consequently, we can foresee Macau commercial banks could follow this path to find a new direction and to maximize its profit margin. Keywords: Globalization of Financial Market Macau Co
