Abstract: Adequate number of customer service representatives is the guarantee for the quality of
field service. Traditionally, the companies deploy the customer service representatives based
mainly on the principle of minimum cost while ignoring the customers requirements of timing.
Taking the response time as the theoretical basis of staffing benchmarks, this paper adopts the
model of field service queue approximation M/ G/ m to determine how many customer service rep
resentatives are necessary for a certain response time and thus provides with a more scientific deci
sionmaking for staffing.
