Improving of Students’ Listening Comprehension

内容摘要:对中国学生来说,听力理解一直是一件头痛的事,“聋子英语”、“哑巴英语”一直困惠着学英语的 中国学生。因此,在英语教学中,教师如何进行听力教学,如何掌极听力教学的各种技巧显得十分地重要。笔者分 析了英语口语与书面语的不同之处,指出了英语口语中语言行为的变异,阐述了中国学生在听力理解上的困难和 原因,比如:语音辨音能力差,长短音不分,不习惯于语音上的同化作用等。在此基础上,笔者介绍了遢过语音辫 别、语义锖測等方法,来克服学生在听力攻解上的困难,从而提高学生的听力理解能力。

As we know, listening* reading, writing and translation are five basic skills in language teaching and learning. Developmentally, these skills are acquired in a certain sequence. For example, a child first listens for a long time before it is able to speak. It is the same for an adult who leams English as a foreign language. So listening plays the first and the most important role in learning a foreign language. But in the practice of English teaching in China, it fails to receive as much attention as reading, writing and translation in China. What most teachers do in class is merely to play the recorder and check answers to listening exercises. So most students can hardly learn anything in class, and listening comprehension gives them much headache. Hence, in teaching listening comprehension, it is very important for teachers to find the problems students have and suitable ways to solve them.
What Makes Listening DifHcult?
If we want to solve the problems in listening comprehension, we must first have a better understanding of the difficulties that students encounter in their listening. Of course there are many, factors which affect listening comprehension, such as lack of an English environment, expanding class population, insufficient number of teachers or inadequately trained
