Preventive maintenance of asphalt pavement technology research
and application
——A Case of Jinggang ao Expressway (Xinxiang to
Zhengzhou Section)
Abstract
The pressure of the highway maintenance increased with the increasing age of the
road because of continued growth in traffic, scale expansion in road network, shorage of
funds in recent years. Preventive maintenance technology is a kind of initiative and
dynamic maintenance methods. It played many roles in reducing maintenance costs,
extending the life of rood, slowing down the age of pavement, improving the function of
pavemcnt, enhaning the service level of pavement. Preventive maintenance technology
has not incorperated into the technical specifications of pavement maitenance of highway
although the research and application of this technology has made great achievements.
The problems includes lacking of evaluation methods, how to determine the optimal time
of maintenance, the choice of what kind of maintence technologies, how to control the
maintenance quality, how to evaluate maintenance effects.
The research involved in determining the preventive maintenance time, developing
the strategies and evaluating the etfects through investigation and test, technical
assessment, maintenance programs design and implementing about the special
maintenance projects of Jinggangao Expressway(Xinxiang to Zhengzhou Section).
Traffic survey statistics in Jinggangao Expressway (Xinxiang to Zhengzhou Section)
results show that the strength of pavement structure was good, the surface cracks
appeared in all kinds of diseases, Pavement Condition Index (PCI) in below 80% points,
